Panelarrow_down Fighting Counterfeiting - for Wine Producers
    Anti-Counterfeiting Technologies and Methods

Marker Algoril

Presentation

"A random marking code is generated from the identity card of the product to be protected (product reference) and an innovative algorithm. This unique marking code constitutes the legitimacy and fully-fledged existence of the object. This marking code together with the product reference is recorded in a high security data base. This is the first level of security."

Marker Applied DNA Sciences

About

"Counterfeiting of fine wines has caused consumers uncertainty and increased risk in this segment of the wine industry. Bottles of rare vintage wines can sell for thousands of dollars and have become a popular investment for wine collectors all over the world. Until recently, it has been difficult to detect wine forgeries, but DNA science may come to the rescue."

Marker Argonne - Cap invented to detect fraudulent or tampered wine

About

A new cap invented by Argonne's Vulnerability Assessment Team can detect fraudulent or tampered wine. By plugging the cap into a computer through a USB cable, a wine buyer or auctioneer can determine if the wine inside is genuine. New generations of the cap will contain a color sensor that detects a particular tiny section of a tie-dye pattern located under the cap.

Marker Authenticate-360

About

"The mission of Authenticate-360 is to serve as a valuable resource for document security, while exploring the potential of print as a simple, low-cost, security layer in the fight against fraud, counterfeiting and other related crimes."

Marker Bottle Etching

Distinguishing information is etched into the bottle with a laser. This technique is used by Penfolds and Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

Marker CertiLogo

About

"CertiLogo's digital DNA Codes make your products unique. The DNA code associated with your product allows you to demonstrate its authenticity and trace it along the production chain until it reaches the consumer."

Marker De La Rue

About, Case Study

"De La Rue Holographics designs, originates and manufactures Optically Variable Devices (OVDs) that can be identified at first glance for their quality and imagery and are known to provide unbeatable levels of security. We specialise in classical holography. This means that our clients' holograms incorporate stronger colour shifts, sharper high-resolution, high-contrast image-switching three-dimensionality and visible depth."

Marker E-Tongue

Story

The device is based on similar principles to the human tongue, and is sensitive to five different tastes - sweet, salty, bitter, acidic and umami (savoury).

Although in its early stages, the e-tongue can already tell the difference between four grape varieties - Airen, Chardonnay, Malvasia and Macabeu - and samples of the same wine belonging to vintage years 2004 and 2005.

Marker Eastman Kodak

About, Video

"The KODAK anticounterfeiting technology uses invisible markers that can be added to printing inks, paper and other packaging elements, and are detectable only with proprietary handheld readers. The readers are leased to customers and delivered in tamperproof packaging. The system prevents counterfeiters from duplicating product packaging."

Marker Graphic Security Systems Corporation

About

"Graphic Security Systems Corporation has provided its patented security technology to government-authorized security printing firms and major corporations for more than twenty-five years."

Marker Hitachi

About

"The RFID, wireless semiconductor integrated circuit that stores an ID number in its memory, was proposed about a decade ago as an alternative to the barcode. Its use, however, has so far been limited to a few applications where its advantages offset its relatively high cost. The μ-chip is Hitachi's response to resolving some of the issues associated with conventional RFID technology."

Marker HP Laboratories Palo Alto

About

"Counterfeit goods are having a huge impact on world wide economic health.
Accurate estimates on the international counterfeit market are difficult to come
by, as counterfeiting is an inherently clandestine process. It is clear however
that counterfeiting is reaching into all industries where a profit can be made.
The wine industry depends on brand value to command a premium price, which
constitutes a prime objective for counterfeiters. Counterfeit wines, not only of
premium vintages but also of more modestly priced varieties, have been
exposed. We discuss the potential losses to the wine industry, the lure of the
premium wine market to counterfeiters, as well as possible actions the industry
can take to deter counterfeits."
